Is Maiar indeed “the future of money”?

Intro and Point of view

I have almost 8 years experience with the Crypto field and passionate about tangible blockchain projects.

This article reflects my point of view only, distant and as objective as possible. Take it with a grain of salt.

History

Back in the days the buzz words around crypto currencies were fork and ICO. Everyone knew a fork is something that the entire crypto space will follow — a real step forward to the existing coins.

You could have built a web page offering nothing with no tangible product. However there would have been tens of thousands of people investing in thin air. I think the ICOs ruined part of the crypto evolution due to low to no delivery of projects.

Maiar by Elrond

I will do a short and perhaps superficial dive into this, from three dimensions:

1. Team

I was surfing the web for newly above mentioned ICOs, trying to understand what will bring potential to the crypto space after so many years of pumps and dumps.

I got stumbled by a web page called elrond.com. I quickly browsed to the team members and read their bio.

I discovered that a. they are based in Romania (interesting as this is the second largest tech project generated in RO in the last years) b. they were high executives in their previous companies c. the roles in the teams were clearly defined and d. they had a lot of workforce.

Simply put, I loved how everything was tied together with a real team behind their product (remember the ICO?).

This increased my curiosity about them.

2. Price opportunity

Unlucky was I not discovering them a few months back and not having the opportunity to read more and digest it better.

I jumped in the boat at around 35$ prior to Maiar release, with the classic approach “prior to product launch this will drop — same old same marketing without anything tangible” and “i will sell right before the launch” — which i did.

Going further in the Maiar release i understood that the game is not the same, that a product is actually being released and that this will for sure improve the adoption and use of the crypto currencies.

Shock! I got a slap on my face by my own ego and stupidity.

At the time of writing this article, the price is almost at the ATH and me rejoining the boat at 65$.

In the long run, months, years etc there will be spikes and drops, there will be new releases, new partnerships, new products and new functionalities.

I could care less now if the price will dive to 10$ or if it’ll raise to 400$. I choose to invest in a Romanian company, that is delivering actual products and functionalities, helping others to embrace the technology and its potential.

There is no price prediction from my side as TAs are not for me.

3. Product

When the release finally arrived I was eager to download and start using it. Was it indeed something never seen before? Will this be a game changer?

My first impressions (leaving aside the normal technical issues when a product is released) were:

  • great UX & UI
  • seamless onboarding
  • ease of use (stupid simple I would say)

I took a step back and started to compare with Revolut (which, by the way screwed the entire UX a few releases back — it was more easier and nicer back in the days) that I use on a daily basis.

and I found that I need more from it:

  • ability to top up with a credit card directly
  • reporting
  • attached card
  • withdrawal
  • privacy*

Some of the above will be for sure added, some will not…

I need the above functionalities to switch entirely from Revolut to Maiar and run my daily cash through them . For others maybe this will not be the case.

Long story short, I am here to stay, I look forward to see and use the next releases, to test it and to understand how Maiar can help me manage my fiat and crypto better.

*Privacy — something that is bothering me is that anyone that has my phone number or can connect my username to my name can easily see the amount of EGLD that I am holding in Maiar. All you need to do is to add the number in your phone agenda, open Maiar, send egld, select user and copy wallet address. Hiting the explorer will then expose my holding and my past transactions.

Is Maiar indeed “the future of money”? Definitely but a long journey lays ahead of us and I will be watching / investing / riding it.

you can use Maiar by installing it via my referral link
